New Bag--Neutral Tones

Hello again folks! This is my second post this week  and it's only Tuesday. I think life might be finally settling down after several months of family health emergencies, hospitalizations and one very untimely car accident. Everyone is fine--knock on wood and I am looking forward to some relatively calm days ahead.

I stitched up a new bag yesterday using a doily as the center motif. It was a set of two doilies before I used the smaller one on a zipper bag. I have been reserving the large one for precisely this project! I used a tiny tone-on-tone floral print for the lining. The two tones match the colors of the main fabric and the cotton thread in the doily perfectly! Note the cute lacey edging on both sides of the straps. I couldn't resist!

Inside is a generous pocket edged with the same ivory lace edging that I used on the straps.

Then I had some fabric left over so I made a matching set of zipper bags.

The zipper pulls are made from recycled sari silk. (sari ribbon)

I'm pleased with the final results. I love the neutral beige tones and find myself drawn to these colors. Now what shall I make? I have such a large collection of vintage linens and lace....I'm sure I'll think of something and chances are good that you'll hear about it! Have a lovely evening friends!

  1. Wow! I think this is my favorite one now! I love these colors and they go with anything. We wear so many light colors here that I enjoy neutrals more. It's wonderful to see what you've been sewing. I hope you are well my friend. Lots and lots of hugs, Diane

  2. There is nothing so lovely as diving into one's linen stash and making pretties such as this lovely bag you have stitched. Your bag is gorgeous, Linda. I love the neutral colours; the doily is inspired and the addition of the tiny buttons is perfect. The lace edging on the handles is so pretty. Love those cute little matching bags as well. Just gorgeous, Linda.

  3. Beautiful bag, Linda.
Of course anything with lace is going to catch my eye. I love the way you added the buttons around the edging of the lace, very nice. I believe the inside material is one that I have used on a quilt that I made some years ago. I love the tiny print.
As always, it is a pleasure visiting with you.

    Enjoy your day~~

    1. Hello Debbie,
So nice to hear from you! Thank you!!! Yes, we do seem to share a love of lace! IT's funny, I have a large vintage piece of that fabric given to me by a friend, then I also bought a couple yards a year or so ago...they are so alike you can barely tell the difference. I love tiny prints too! Glad you stopped by! Have a nice day!

  5. I love your new tote and the accesories, too, Linda. I worked on a purse yesterday, too, as I was inspired by all your sewing. I have to do some hand sewing to embellish mine, but when it's done, I'll show you. I used to make purses all the time, but got out of the habit the last few years.
    Happy Sewing!

    1. Kitty,
I can't wait to see what you have made!!! I would like to make myself a new purse too! I made one that I absolutely loved last year and I washed it accidentally with a pen still in it, well, the ink got all over it. I was heartsick...Sewing up a new bag is so fun! Looking forward to seeing your creation Kitty! Happy Sewing to you too!!!! ;)
